2 Months Old!!!!

I'm 2 months old now and that means we are a few steps closer to getting out of here and going home.  With all the set backs we've had the last two weeks we got some good news yesterday and today.  Yesterday they took out my J-tube!!! which means I'm getting fed through my belly again!  They did have to put an IV back into my scalp, but they said it could come out anytime today or tomorrow.  Today they told us there wasn't any leakage on my dressing which means my tummy is healing which should mean there won't be any leakage when they put me back on the big feeds.  Because of all the set backs they did push back my  gap study to July 11th in hopes that my esophagus will grow more so they can connect it here.

Time For A G-J Tube

What's a G-J tube you ask?  Well the G-tube is my feeding tube and is still in place, but the J-tube is a smaller tube that fits inside the G-tube and hooks into a part of the small intestine which bypasses my stomach.  The reason for the new tube is because my G-tube site on my tummy is still very red and is still leaking.  The leaking causes yeast to grow which is not good but goes away after cleaning really well.  I will still get nutrition through the feeds in the J-tube helping me to grow and it will allow the site to heal.  Because of the yeast  and leaking I had to have a dressing change every 8 hours which hurt really really bad, so the doctors gave me some morphine.  Earlier this week I had a little bit of a fever so they put me on broad spectrum antibiotics, but that's done and no more fever!  I also had to get an IV put in so I could get some fluids in while my tummy is healing, but the nurses couldn't get it in either of my hands or feet so it's in my scalp.  It looks and sounds a lot worse then it is.  The only highlight of the week is when I smile because it seems like that's the only time Mommy and Daddy smile.  The problem is when I'm not on morphine it hurts and when I am on morphine I get really tired, so it's hard to find time to smile.  Please say extra prayers this week for my tummy healing so I can get this J-tube out and off morphine, and for Mommy and Daddy.

Continuous Feeds Again

Well here we are at 49 days in the hospital and they put me back on continuous feeds.  That's where the milk is going into my belly at a steady pace instead of going in all at once.  Mommy and Daddy say this is a step backwards because the continuous feeds don't stretch my belly and esophagus very much, but if I don't have continuous feeds milk leaks out of my belly along with stomach acid which hurts my skin.  On the brighter side I have learned the art of smiling which makes Mommy and Daddy smile which makes me feel good.  Physical Therapy is also going good I'm progressing in moving my head from side to side and I'm getting better at holding it up.  I'm also learning to focus and track things with my eyes.  Mommy has learned to massage me to help me relax too.

Parking has changed at Children's too it's $2.00 for 4 hours and then a dollar more for every hour after, so just keep an eye on the clock when you come see me!

Gotta take the bad with the good

So not a very good week for me, Mommy and Daddy.  After my gap study the drs put a new, bigger g-tube in but since then  my g-tube has been leaking!  That in turn lead to an infection and the drs putting me on antibiotics through an iv in my foot.  I don't like iv's and so one went bad, a blood clot blocked one up and today I kicked it out so now they are going to give me meds through my g-tube.  The wound specialist came by and tightened the g-tube and she also added another .5cm of water to the balloon inside the g-tube to also help keep it tight and from leaking.

The 2nd Study

Friday at 1:30pm I was taken downstairs with Mommy and Daddy to have an x-ray.  The x-ray was part of my Gap study which tells how much my esophagus tubes have grown if at all.  The 1st Gap study on May 1st showed the gap was 6cm which is almost 2 1/2 inches.  The 2nd Gap study showed a gap of only 3cm!!!  Friends and family this is great news.  This means that Mommy and I shouldn't have to go to Boston.  The surgeons at Children's want to keep me here another month and do a 3rd Gap study on July 1st to see if the gap has gotten any smaller so that they can do a surgery here to attach my esophagus tubes together.  The main surgeon is very optimistic about me growing more in a month and a nurse and a family supporter both told Mommy and Daddy seperately that they haven't seen a baby grow more than 2cm since they have been there, if ever!!!  So me growing 3cm is a big deal!  I just wanted to thank everyone for all the thoughts and prayers and Mommy and Daddy want me to ask that you continue to do so until I get to go home :)

(Right after the study) No tape on my face or tube down my throat!!!
