The Longest Week

T.J. had a surgery last Friday and it went well.  The surgery lasted for about 4 1/2 hours.  The surgeons were not able to connect his esophagus, but they did stretch it and tack it to his spine and back muscles.  The reason they tacked it was to get him ready for his surgery next Friday.  The surgeons hope that by tacking it it will help stretch the esophagus more to be able to connect directly during the surgery if that doesn't help they will pull his stomach up so both ends of his esophagus touch and connect them that way.   T.J. swelled up quite a bit because of all the fluids that they had to give him, but is showing signs of reducing the swelling.  T.J. is on two pain killers, sedatives and a paralytic.  T.J. should not feel anything, or be able to move, but sometimes after line changes the drugs don't take effect for a few minutes and T.J. can move or twitch so what they do is either a give him more pain killers in a short amount of time or give a blood transfusion.  T.J. has had both done and both helped very well.  T.J. is also on a ventilator for the first time since he has been here.  His left lung did fill with fluids and collapse, but it is getting better.   Thank you for all  your thoughts and prayers!
